12 anglers from my community, three days, and exclusive private waters in Bavaria: together with Colin, I put on an event where the fish hadn't seen a lure in years. Part one takes us to a three-hectare private lake full of untouched carp, grass carp and tench – and a sturgeon of over 1.5 metres that nobody has ever landed.
Then it was on to a private stretch of river on the upper Danube: new water, new species, and fish in absolute XXL sizes. Eels, barbel and catfish after dark, grayling, trout and chub on the fly rod in the morning – and the catch went straight into a catch & cook right at the water. Just when we thought we'd seen it all, two catfish decided to crash our steak dinner.
The Private Lake
A three-hectare private lake in Bavaria full of untouched fish: carp, grass carp and tench were lining up. Only the sturgeon of over 1.5 metres refused to be fooled – the legend of the lake lives on.
The Upper Danube
New water, new dimensions: giant eels, a fat barbel, catfish, a grayling of almost 50 centimetres and a river mirror carp. Eel alarm at night, fly rods in the morning.
Catch & Cook & Crew
Freshly smoked eel, trout ceviche and steaks off the grill, plus goodie bags with Glorify polarized glasses, goodies from Nays and line from Stroft, and a tackle raffle with Nays and Zack Tackle. But what mattered most was the crew.
